The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has highly qualified, competent and diverse faculty in the field of mass communication to offer industry-oriented training to the students in all Centres.

The IIMC has a blend of academicians and industry experts in the faculty, who collectively train the students to meet the changing requirements of media in all fields, be it print media, electronic media, digital media, language, advertising & public relations. Apart from ensuring coordination in all academic affairs, the Dean (Academic Affairs) acts as in-charge of the academic activities, operating with shared supervision of the Director General, Course Directors and Academic Council. The Dean (Academic Affairs) coordinates overall academic policies, programmes, personnel and facilities.

Under the overall direction of the Director General, the Office of Dean (Academic Affairs) works as the nerve centre for the matters concerning academic environment and activity on the campus. This office looks after students’ admission and working of various teaching departments in collaboration with the Course Directors.

Other Duties & Responsibilities of the Dean (Academic Affairs) are:

i) Leadership and Vision

  • To develop and maintain a vision for educational excellence of the Institute
  • To develop a Strategic Plan for teaching, training and research
  • To coordinate with Academic Council
  • To provide academic direction and supervision to students and faculty
  • To promote partnership with constituents/stakeholders in the external educational, professional and industry/organisation and communities.

ii) Faculty and staff Development

  • To supervise, develop and organise faculty development and training programmes
  • To continually improve the faculty and academic staff orientation, training and development activities to promote a culture of learning
  • To oversee the evaluation of faculty and academic staff in the teaching departments
  • To create and enforce systems, policies and procedures in order to ensure educational consistency and excellence
  • To organise seminars, symposiums and workshops on contemporary communication, media, research and developmental issues.

iii) Curriculum Development, Admissions and Examinations

  • To facilitate development, review and revision of academic curricula and assure their quality and relevance from time to time
  • To administer all academic programmes to provide quality education with overall consistency to meet the needs of the society and mandate of the Institute
  • To oversee the functioning of the Curriculum Committee for the development/ revision and/or implementation of all curricula in the Institute as well as Chair the Institute’s Curriculum Committee
  • To collaborate with the Course Directors and faculty to organise regular evaluations of curricula in the various Department
  • To supervise Entrance and semester examinations and maintain the academic standard of all centres of the Institute

iv) To perform such other duties as are assigned to him from time to time by the Director General.
